Quasicrystals: The Adventure of a Discovery – Prof. Luca Bindi
At CGT, Knowledge Comes Full Circle
Guest speaker: Prof. Luca Bindi
Discovery, science and adventure: the story of natural quasicrystals
On Thursday, June 5 at 6:00 PM, the Aula Magna of the Center of GeoTechnologies of the University of Siena (Via Vetri Vecchi 34, San Giovanni Valdarno – AR) will host the first event in the lecture series “At CGT, Knowledge Comes Full Circle”, designed to explore the many forms of knowledge and make them accessible to the wider public.
The speaker for the evening will be Prof. Luca Bindi, Professor of Mineralogy and Director of the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Florence, as well as a member of the prestigious Accademia dei Lincei. His lecture is titled:
“Quasicrystals: The Adventure of a Discovery”
During the event, Prof. Bindi will take the audience on a captivating scientific journey: the true story of the discovery of the first natural quasicrystal, a material with an “impossible” atomic structure that revolutionized the science of materials. A one-of-a-kind tale of intuition, rigorous research… and a meteorite from outer space.
The event is open to the public and will conclude with a friendly aperitif.
Admission is free, subject to availability.
The lecture is organized under the patronage of the Municipality of San Giovanni Valdarno, in collaboration with Fondazione Masaccio.
