BRIGHT-NIGHT 2026 in San Giovanni Valdarno
On Friday 25 September 2026, the historic centre of San Giovanni Valdarno will host “Brave Earth. Explore, understand, share: the challenge of knowledge”.
an initiative organised by the Centre for GeoTechnologies of the University of Siena as part of BRIGHT-NIGHT, the European Researchers’ Night in Tuscany, promoted to bring scientific research closer to the public and highlight its value in everyday life and in the growth of the community.
The event, organised by the Centre of GeoTechnologies of the University of Siena, with the patronage and collaboration of the Municipality of San Giovanni Valdarno, will be entitled:
Brave Earth
Explore, understand, share: the challenge of knowledge
The guiding theme of the morning will be Brave Earth: the courage to observe, ask questions, experiment, face mistakes and share new knowledge. The theme is part of the reflection proposed by the University of Siena for 2026 on courage in its different forms: nurturing scientific curiosity, overcoming boundaries between disciplines, accepting error as part of the learning process, and facing new challenges in knowledge with determination. It is an invitation to build open, interdisciplinary knowledge capable of creating value for society.
The 2026 edition will be entirely dedicated to schools and will take place in the morning. Activities are aimed at classes from primary, lower secondary and upper secondary schools, with participation by reservation.
The programme includes 30 activities, ranging from workshops and experiments to demonstrations, games and interactive experiences. Geology, earthquakes, the environment, digital cartography, drones, laser scanners, robotics, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, health, molecular cuisine, history and cultural heritage are among the topics covered, with the aim of bringing children and young people closer to research through direct and engaging experiences.
Alongside the Centre for GeoTechnologies, local schools, research institutions and scientific and cultural organisations will take part, turning San Giovanni Valdarno into a widespread laboratory of knowledge and experimentation.
