As of 1 June 2022, the collaboration between INGV (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology) and the Centro di GeoTecnologie of the University of Siena has been strengthened through the signing of a new Framework Agreement between the two institutions.

To consolidate the collaboration between the parties, INGV has established a branch office at CGT, where its technical and scientific staff carry out their activities.

In addition to conducting their own research activities, INGV staff collaborate with CGT researchers and technicians in the development of joint projects and in the teaching activities of the University of Siena held at the San Giovanni Valdarno site.

CGT and INGV have been collaborating since 2017 in scientific and technological research activities in the fields of exploration geophysics and the reconstruction of crustal structures, with the aim of 3D modelling of seismogenic faults and volcanic edifices.

These joint research activities, carried out in synergy both in terms of expertise and instrumentation, focus primarily on the acquisition and analysis of geophysical and geomatic data.

Over the years, research agreements have been signed for exploration activities in the Central Apennines, the Vesuvian, Phlegraean and Etnean areas, as well as in the inland regions of Sardinia.
