
The Professional Development Course in “Geotechnical Engineering Design” provides advanced training in the principles and practical applications of geotechnical engineering for construction. The programme focuses on the design of shallow foundations, deep foundations, caissons, retaining walls, diaphragm walls and soldier pile walls, as well as soil and rock slope stability analysis, remediation measures for landslide-prone areas, and the effects of seismic actions on geotechnical design.

Who can apply
The Professional Development Course in Geotechnical Engineering Design is intended for holders of Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees who wish to deepen their knowledge and professional skills in the field of geotechnical engineering.
Admission is open to applicants holding an Italian Bachelor’s, Specialist, Master’s or Old-System degree in one of the following broad disciplinary areas (for the complete list of eligible degree classes, please refer to the Course Factsheet):
- Architecture, Building Engineering and Spatial Planning
- Civil Engineering, Infrastructure, Environmental and Land Engineering
- Environmental Sciences, Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, and Geosciences
- Physical Sciences, Mechanical Engineering and Materials Engineering
- Natural Sciences and Biological-Environmental Systems
Applicants holding an equivalent academic qualification awarded outside Italy may also apply, provided that their qualification is recognised, for admission purposes only, as comparable in academic level, nature, content and academic rights to the corresponding Italian qualification required for admission to the course.
Aims
The course is designed to provide participants with advanced theoretical knowledge and practical skills in geotechnical engineering design, with particular emphasis on foundations, earth-retaining structures, slope stability and seismic design.
Designed for engineers, geologists, architects and technical professionals, the programme combines lectures with practical exercises to develop knowledge and skills that can be immediately applied in professional geotechnical design practice.
