Start of the Second-Level Master in Geotechnologies for Archaeology at the University of Siena – A.Y. 2025/2026

The Second-Level Master in Geotechnologies for Archaeology at the University of Siena officially began on 8 January 2026. The program is organized by the Department of Historical Sciences and Cultural Heritage in collaboration with the Center for Geotechnologies (CGT) in San Giovanni Valdarno, where the teaching activities are held. The start of classes marks the opening of a new academic year dedicated to advanced training in archaeology supported by geoscientific technologies.

The Master offers an interdisciplinary curriculum that integrates traditional archaeological methods with innovative tools from the geosciences. The program includes modules on geophysical prospection, geomorphological analysis, remote sensing, GIS for archaeology, 3D surveying, digital modeling, and diagnostic techniques for the conservation of sites and materials. Lectures are complemented by hands-on activities and specialized laboratory sessions, ensuring a practical and professionally oriented approach.

Thanks to the combined expertise of the Department and the technological facilities of the Center for Geotechnologies, the program prepares specialists capable of working in complex contexts of research, protection, and enhancement of cultural heritage, in collaboration with public institutions, museums, heritage authorities, and professional organizations.

The launch of this new edition of the Master marks an important moment for the participants, who are about to undertake a year of high-level training within one of Italy’s most qualified contexts for the integration of archaeology and Earth sciences.
